Tom Clark, an Augusta native who was an All-State Second Team football player as well as class valedictorian at Augusta High School, lettered four years in football at UWEC, playing two years for Jim Rice and the final two seasons for Link Walker. Clark was a two-year All-Conference defensive end after earning Honorable Mention as a sophomore. He also earned NAIA All-District 14 and Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior. Twice, he earned the Conference's Scholar-Athlete award at a time when each of the nine schools had one recipient each year. He was selected the outstanding senior in the School of Business and graduated magna cum laude. Following his graduation in 1970, Clark went to work for the Big Eight accounting firm of Peat, Marwick & Mitchell and became a senior accountant. He earned his Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1972. From 1973-75, he was the accounting manager at the Twin Cities firm of Breitman, Orenstein & Sweitzer. For the 10-year period from 1975-85, he was a practicing CPA in the Twin Cities area at the same time working parttime as treasurer for various organizations. He became controller for Health Risk management, Inc. in 1985 and the Chief Financial Officer in 1987.
