UWEC Athletics Hall of Fame
Laura Wodyn competed on the Blugold cross country team in 1984 and 1985, the track & field team in 1985 and the Blugold tennis team in 1983 and 1984. Wodyn was a member of the Blugolds' NAIA national championship cross country team in 1984 and was an NAIA All-American, placing 10th overall, when the Blugolds took second at the national championships in 1985. She also earned a spot on the NAIA All-District 14 Team two years. Wodyn was a member of Blugold teams that won the WWIAC championships in 1984 and 1985. Individually, she finished 12th at the WWIAC meet in 1984, earning All-Conference Second Team honors and eighth in 1985, making the All-Conference First Team. As a member of the Blugold track & field team, Wodyn earned NAIA All-American honors for indoor and outdoor track in 1985. She was a member of the 4 x 800-meter relay team that took third at the indoor nationals and set a school record. She was also a member of the 3200-meter relay team that took third at the outdoor nationals, setting another school record. At the conference level, Ecker took third in the 1000-meter run at the WWIAC indoor championships and captured third in the 1500-meter run at the conference outdoor meet. Academically, Wodyn was an NAIA Academic All-American and the WWIAC Scholar-Athlete for cross country in 1985. She was also an Academic All-American in 1985 and was honored as an Outstanding Senior at UWEC. After graduation, Wodyn continued to be competitive in athletics. She was Eau Claire's Indianhead Track Club Runner of the Year in 1995, has competed in marathons and road races and has been in the top 75 women in the American Birkebeiner Ski Race for four years. Wodyn graduated from Eisenhower High School in New Berlin in 1981 and earned her bachelor's degree from UWEC in 1985. At the time of her induction, she and her husband Archie were parents of one and Laura was a physical therapist for the Eau Claire Area School District.
