UWEC Athletics Hall of Fame
Marijean Kalair was one of the pioneers of women's athletics at UWEC. She was a member of the badminton team in 1972, the volleyball team from 1973-75 and the track and field team from 1972-75. She was the WWIAC champion in the discus three years from 1973 to 1975. She set the conference record in the discus in 1973 and improved that record in 1974 and 1975. Kalair qualified for national competition in the discus in 1973 and 1975 and was one of the first Blugold women to compete in a national championship when she traveled to Corvallis, Oregon for the 1975 AIAW nationals. A 1971 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School, Lucas received her bachelor's degree from UWEC in 1976. Following graduation, Kalair coached and officiated swimming, volleyball, gymnastics and track and field at the high school level for over 18 years and at the time of her induction was the director of the pool and fieldhouse for the public schools in Menomonie.
