UWEC Athletics Hall of Fame
Dennis Blunk was the first 7-footer to play basketball at UWEC, joining Ken Anderson's program in 1973. When he concluded his career in 1977, he had averaged 14.3 points per game for 92 games and totaled 1,322 points to rank sixth on the all-time scoring list. During his career, the Blugolds produced a 90-21 record and won three conference championships and earned one trip to the NAIA Nationals in Kansas City. Blunk was honorary co-captain and team co-MVP with another Hall of Famer, Tim Valentyn, in 1977. He was named to the All-Conference team twice and All-District team once. He earned Honorable Mention in the NAIA All-America balloting and also was accorded a spot on the GTE-CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team. Blunk earned Second Team All-State honors at Shawano High School where he set a school single game record of 46 points.
Since receiving his education degree from UWEC, Blunk has been an elementary school teacher in the Wausau School District. At the time of his induction, he had been a basketball and football coach for eighth graders and prior to that spent nine years as an assistant boys and girls basketball coach at Wausau East and Wausau West high schools.
