UWEC Athletics Hall of Fame
Sharon King was a member of the Blugold swimming dynasty from 1978 to 1981. During her years at UWEC, the women's swim team captured the WWIAC championship twice and finished second once. She earned national All-American honors in 1980 and 1981 and was a national champion as a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that captured the AIAW crowns in national and school record times. King accumulated 16 conference championships as a Blugold including three consecutive titles in the 50 and 200 backstroke events from 1979 to 1981. She set WWIAC records in the 200 backstroke and as a member of the 200 and 400 medley relays. King held eight individual and two relay school records while at UWEC. She was team captain in 1979, 1980 and 1981 and was named Most Valuable Performer in 1979 and Most Inspirational in 1980 and 1981. A 1977 graduate of Madison Memorial High School, King earned her bachelor's degree from UWEC in 1981. At the time of her induction, she was a pre-school teacher at the First Presbyterian Day School in Austin, Texas.
