UWEC Athletics Hall of Fame
Born and raised in Pardeeville, Gordy Eggleston was a member of Blugold Hall of Famer Ade Olson's first high school team. When he came to UWEC, he became a member of Blugold Hall of Famer Bill Zorn's first basketball team in 1928-29. He played three years for Zorn and then also played football under Zorn. He was also a member of the track team. Following his graduation from then Eau Claire State Teachers College, Eggleston spent seven years at Fall Creek High School where his basketball teams compiled a 90-29 record. He took three consecutive teams to the state tournament and his 1937 team went undefeated to win the state Class C championship. One of his players on that team was Blugold Hall of Famer Norm Krenz. Eggleston left Fall Creek in 1940 and spent the next five years at Neillsville High School. He was the head basketball coach and after serving as assistant football coach took over as the head football coach also his final two years there. He moved on to Green Lake in 1945 and stayed there four years, coaching basketball and baseball. He also introduced the sport of football in 1946. During a 10-year period from 1949-59, Eggleston left the teaching profession and spent time in the business world. He returned to Green Lake in 1959 and finished his teaching/coaching career there, retiring in 1972. In 17 seasons as the head basketball coach, he compiled a 150-105 record and in 16 seasons as the head football coach he had a 54-33-4 record. His 29-year basketball coaching record was 338-191 and his 18-year football coaching record was 69-40-6.
