A defensive tackle, Luedtke was the Blugolds' most valuable defensive player three years and earned team MVP honors as a senior when he was also team co-captain. After receiving honorable mention in the balloting for All-Conference as a sophomore and junior, he was named to both the All-Conference team and the NAIA All-District 14 team as a senior. A heavyweight wrestler, Luedtke placed third in the conference tournament twice and also participated in the NAIA National Tournament once. He was the team MVP in 1973.

Following his graduation from UWEC in 1975, Luedtke began his career at Shawano High School as both teacher and coach. During a six-year stint, he coached football, wrestling and track. He produced seven state qualifiers in wrestling and track including one state runner-up in wrestling. He left teaching to become a district sales manager for Moorman Manufacturing from 1981-83 and then served as an American Family Insurance agent from 1983-89. Luedtke returned to the prep scene in 1986 at Weyauwega-Fremont High School, spending three years there as Athletics Director. He moved on to his present school, Marshfield Senior High, in 1989. At the time of his induction, he had become the head football coach after spending five years as wrestling coach during which time he had eight state qualifiers.
