Ade Washburn was an outstanding all-around athlete during his Blugold days, playing football, basketball and spring sports (baseball or track) all four years. He captained both the football and basketball teams his senior year. As a football player, he handled the punting for four years and played both offensive and defensive end. He was a member of the Blugolds' conference championship squad in 1948. He was a guard in basketball, a catcher in baseball and pole vaulted and threw the javelin, discus and shot put in track. Washburn played quarterback for the Chippewa Marines, a successful semipro football team, in 1953 and 1954.

Washburn's career has included stints as a coach, athletic director, teacher, semiprofessional football player, musky guide and real estate representative. Washburn's first position was at Fall Creek High School from 1950 through 1956 during which time he taught social studies and phy ed, coached basketball and baseball and served as Athletics Director. His six-year basketball coaching record was 89-40 with two Western Cloverbelt Conference championships, one overall Cloverbelt title, and two district championships. From 1957 through 1973, he taught history and phy ed at Stanley-Boyd High School. During his first seven years there, he also was basketball coach, assistant football coach and baseball coach and served as Athletics Director. His 1960 basketball team won an Eastern Cloverbelt title. During 10 of his years as a teacher, Washburn spent his summers fishing and guiding on the Chippewa Flowage. After leaving the education field, Washburn came to Eau Claire as a real estate representative, first with Donnellan & Feather, Inc.; then with Lundholm Real Estate and at the time of his induction with Donnellan & Theisen, Inc.
