LeRoy captained the 1978 Blugold team which won its first seven games and finished 8-2 for the season. He was both All-Conference and All-District as a junior and a senior. He led the team in rushing his first three years and then was the blocking back for Tim Lewitzke who became the school's first 1,000-yard rusher in 1978. At one time, LeRoy shared the school record for touchdowns in a game as he scored five against UW-Stout in 1976. He was UWEC’s Conference Scholar-Athlete winner for 1978-79. LeRoy graduated from UWEC in 1979.

The New York Giants signed LeRoy as a free agent in 1979 and he was one of the last players released that year. After obtaining his master's degree from Bemidji State in 1981, LeRoy joined the football and baseball coaching staffs at UW-Stevens Point. He was the Pointers' head football coach from 1982 through 1988, producing a 44-23-2 record with a conference championship in 1986 when he was also named WSUC Coach of the Year. His 1987 squad won and later forfeited the NAIA Division II National Championship and LeRoy was named the Division II National Coach of the Year. LeRoy took over the head football position at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1989. At the time of his induction, he had won three Midwest Conference championships and taken two teams to the NCAA Division III playoffs. He had a 42-9 record at Coe and an 86-32-2 career record to start the 1994 season. His 1992 Coe team led the country in scoring and in 1993, Coe running back Corey Bender led the nation in rushing and all-purpose yards. LeRoy developed strength and conditioning programs for the majority of varsity sports at Stevens Point and Coe and has written computer software and text in the area of weight training for athletics along with developing videotapes in this area.
