Dorothy Murphy played tennis at the No. 1 singles position for UWEC from 1974 to 1978, compiling a 37-13 match record from her sophomore through her senior seasons. In 1977, she represented the University at the Midwest Regional College Tennis Tournament and was named Athlete of the Month by the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram. Murphy graduated in 1974 from Nicolet High School where she played No. 1 singles her senior year and placed third at the state tournament. During the 1978 and 1979 seasons, she served as assistant coach of the women's tennis team. At the time of her induction, Murphy taught speech and language in the Mukwonago School District and was the mother of two.
