Ade Olson returned to his alma mater as football coach and chairman of the physical education department in 1947. He coached football for 10 years, winning conference championships in 1948 and 1956. Although resigning the head football coaching position, he continued to assist in football coaching and remained chairman of the Physical Education Department until 1969. Ade was highly instrumental in the planning of the McPhee Physical Education Center which was dedicated in 1969. Ade was an excellent golfer and golf instructor, an ability that he generously shared with friends, students and faculty colleagues. He became interested in skiing in 1948 and became a certified ski instructor in 1954, sharing those skills as well. In 1969, Ade was honored by the Alumni Association of the university by being presented the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding services as a friend, a teacher, a coach, a leader and an advisor.
