MENOMONIE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's track and field team competed at the two day Warren Bowlus Open at UW-Stout this weekend. The Blugolds had four student athletes place first in their respective events.
Jace Stolte kicked things off for UWEC with a top finish in the men's heptathlon. Stolte trailed after the first event, but won the long jump and high jump to earn the first place finsh with 4969 points. In addition to his long jump and high jump victories, Stolte took second in the 60 meter hurdles, and third in the 60 meter dash, the shot put, the pole vault, and the 1,000 meter race. In the final event, Stolte crossed the finish line in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:52.82 to earn a third place finish and secure his top spot amongst the mutlis.
Kole McKeown finished second in the heptathlon with four second place finishes and a top time in the 60 meter dash at 7.48 seconds.
Blake Postler set a meet record twice during the 60 meter hurdles on Saturday. After setting the records in the prelims with a 8.21 second finish, Postler increased his speed in the finals, crossing the finish line in 8.16 seconds. Jakcson Schulz earned a first place finish in the 60 meter dash with a final time of 7.03 seconds. After qualifying at a 7.11 mark, Schulz improved on his performance to earn the event win.
In the field events,
Gage Stankiewicz earned a first place finish in the shot put on his final throw. Stankiewicz was in second place after the first five rounds, but heaved his way to the top mark of the day with a throw of 18.07 meters (59' 3.5") to win the event.
The Blugolds will be back in action on Saturday, February 7 when they compete at the Mark Guthrie invite hosted by UW-La Crosse. First events from the Hetzel Fieldhouse in La Crosse, Wis. are scheduled for 1 p.m.
