AURORA, Ill. | STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's track and field teams hit the road for the first time this season with competitions at the Aurora Grand Prix and the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. Despite no team scores being recorded, the Blugolds had nine event winners on the day.
At the UWSP Triangular, the field team won four of the six events.
Gage Stankiewicz took the crown in both the shot put and the weight throw, throwing the shot put 17.60 meters and the weight 18.70 meters.
Evan Peterson and
Garrett Rottier placed second and third respectively in the weight throw with Peterson's throw of 17.39 meters and Rottier's 16.59-meter heave. In the high jump,
Brad Roe took the top spot with a mark of 1.91 meters (6-03.25).
Leo Orlikowski set a season during the high jump with a second-place finish and a mark of 1.91 meters (6-03.25). Wrapping up the field team's dominance was
Johnny Botsch who won the pole vault with a height of 4.90 meters (16-00.75).
On the track at UWSP, the Blugolds won four events.
Jackson Schulz finished first in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.01 seconds.
Tyler Botz hit a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41 seconds and a first-place finish. Aidan Groskopf recorded a season best in the 200-meter race, placing first and finishing in 22.71 seconds.
Daylan Berger closed things out for the Blugolds with a personal best finish of 51.55 seconds, winning the event.
At the Aurora Grand Prix,
Jace Stolte was the lone Blugold event winner during the long jump. Stolte set a personal best with a height of 7.16 meters (23-06.00), taking the top spot out of 50 competitors. Riley Templeton and
Blake Postler finished third and fourth respectively in the 200-meter race. Templeton finished in 21.84 seconds, and Postler set a personal record, finishing in 21.93 seconds.
The Blugolds will be back on the road on Friday and Saturday January 30 and 31 when they travel to UW-Stout for the Warren Bowlus Open. Friday's events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
