BROWN DEER, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's swimming and diving team finished off a second consecutive conference title by placing first at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships on Saturday. The Blugold men won the WIAC championship for the second year in a row, giving the program its 27th conference championship.
The Blugold women finished in second place at the meet, seeing their bid for three consecutive conference titles come up just short at the hands of UW-La Crosse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The UW-Eau Claire men finished with 848.50 points to top the team standings. The Blugolds won the meet by nearly 100 points.
- The Blugold men added five individual conference titles on Saturday to cement their overall team championship.
- Kadin Denner (Sr. - Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) nearly broke the WIAC record in the men's 1,650-yard freestyle. He won the event in 15:49.21, nearly beating his own conference record of 15:49.07 set one year ago.
- Adam Kamel (Fr. - Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) won the men's 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.79.
- Zhander Rowley (So. - Janesville, Wis./Parker) prevailed in the men's 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:01.40.
- Ben Keller (Sr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) took first in the men's 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:52.99.
- Blake Wallen (So. - Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) won the men's three-meter diving crown with a score of 495.90.
- The Blugold women added four wins to their tally on Saturday.
- Molly Hosack (Jr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) won the women's 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:18.08.
- Kiara Bissen (Sr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) placed first in the women's 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:23.98.
- Elaina Plonis (Sr. - Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) won the women's 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.82.
- The relay team of Bissen, Sydney McGuine (Sr. - Huntley, Ill.), Hosack and Grace Schnabl (Jr. - New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) won the women's 400-yard freestyle relay.
- The Blugold women finished with 855 team points. UW-La Crosse won the meet with 1,018.
