Molly Hosack, Derek Stadheim Awarded Swimmer of the Meet; Both Programs Finish Second at WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swim and dive teams completed the fourth and final day of the WIAC Championships Saturday. Day four saw multiple podium appearances for the Blugolds. The overall meet saw the men's program place second with a score of 781, and the women's program place second with a score of 894.50. The meet finished with the men's program earning 9 first-place finishes, 8 second-place finishes, and 5 third-place finishes. The women's program earned 10 first-place finishes, 9 second-place finishes, and 6 third-place finishes.

Three Blugolds earned awards for their performances throughout the entirety of the meet. Molly Hosack and Derek Stadheim each were awarded Swimmer of the Meet honors, and freshman Anwen Smith was awarded Newcomer of the Year.
For the men on Saturday, Stadheim delivered a strong performance by winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:00.17. In the 100-yard freestyle, Drew Testin captured first place, finishing in 45.80. Emmett Botten also reached the top of the podium, winning the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.49. Jack Gunderson contributed significantly with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:03.18. Kaden Zink added to the team's success by placing third in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:13.21, earning 27 points.

For the women on Saturday, Hosack excelled in the 1650-yard freestyle, claiming first place. Smith also secured a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 51.67, and contributed to a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Erika Schroeder captured the 200-yard backstroke title, finishing in 2:04.14. Elaina Plonis added another first-place finish for the team in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:05.75.
