BROWN DEER, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swim and dive teams began WIAC Championships Wednesday in Brown Deer, WI. Day one concluded, highlighted by a record setting performance from each swim program, and both team scores positioned in 1st place heading into the rest of the meet.
Men's swimming's
Derek Stadheim set a school and conference record for his 200 yard portion of the men's 800 yard freestyle relay, overtaking current assistant coach
Sam Ryf's previous program record. Women's Swimming's 800 freestyle relay team of
Grace Schnabl,
Emma Vogen,
Anwen Smith, and
Molly Hosack set a school and conference record with their finish Wednesday, also earning NCAA B cuts. Day one also saw the men's 200 medley relay earn NCAA B cuts. The Blugolds' women's program sits at 74 points and is tied for first with UW-La Crosse, while the men's program sits at 113 points, one point ahead of 2nd place UW-Stevens Point.
UW-Eau Claire Men's Team Summary
- The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team, featuring
Derek Stadheim and
Henry Botten, claimed first place with a time of 6:47.66.
- Botten also contributed to the team's success in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing first with a time of 1:29.15.

Charlie Nohner placed fourth in men's 3-meter diving, scoring 384.60 in the finals, with
Tait Johnson in fifth place scoring 370.60.
