MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swim team traveled to Minneapolis to compete in the University of Minnesota's First Chance Meet. The meet took place over Friday night and Saturday afternoon. On Saturday, the divers traveled to Northfield to take part in the Dodd Road Diving invite. Both teams saw success in each both meets.
Day one of the First Chance Meet saw
Vincent Clementi secured second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.51.
Grant Haselow achieved a runner-up finish in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:03.45, and was instrumental in the first-place finish for the 400-yard medley relay, which recorded a time of 3:36.95.
Zach Svendsen contributed significantly to the relay victory and also placed 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.92.
Eric Schroeder placed fifth in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2:08.26, and was part of the second-place 400-yard medley relay team.
Jordan Lindeen secured the victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:20.08, leading UW Eau-Claire's performance in that event.
Grace Mullikin closely followed, finishing second at 2:20.52.
Bella Wulterkens contributed with a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:29.77, and also participated in the 200-yard individual medley, placing fifth with a time of 2:18.34. The 400-yard medley relay team, featuring
Jocelyn Trzebiatowski,
Cora Borroughs, Lindeen, and
Faith Oswald, captured first place, completing the event in 4:07.57.
On day two of the First Chance Meet,
Matt Herron delivered a strong performance with a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.96 and a fourth-place result in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.29. His efforts contributed to the first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, alongside teammates
Eric Oberg,
Vincent Clementi, and
Zach Svendsen. Oberg demonstrated consistency, finishing 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.26 and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:51.13, before contributing to the victorious relay team. Clementi showed versatility, securing eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:47.74 and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle, timing at 49.32. His participation in the winning relay solidified a successful meet for the team.
Brynn Jondle secured first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:53.12 and contributed to the second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, teaming up with
Jocelyn Trzebiatowski,
Faith Oswald, and
Cora Borroughs to post a time of 3:40.25. Oswald delivered a strong performance, finishing fourth in the 100-yard butterfly at 58.47, and was a part of the successful 400-yard freestyle relay team. Borroughs also excelled individually, taking 12th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.01, and was integral to the relay's success.
At the Dodd Road Diving Invite, the Blugolds found success throughout the day. For the men,
Tait Johnson continued his strong season placing 1st in the 1 meter with a score of 447.45. He followed that up with a 4th place finish in the 3 meter with a score of 371.00. Charlie Noher also had a solid day on the board, placing 2nd in the 1 meter with a score of 372.85, and placing 3rd on the 3 meter with a score of 402.50. For the women,
Ella Josephs had another great performance placing 3rd in the 1 meter scoring 370.80, and placing 1st in the 3 meter scoring 366.70. following in order was
Jordan Kuhn placing 4th in the 1 meter (328.90) and 2nd in the 3 meter (322.45), and
Jessica Beguin placing 5th in the 1 meter (301.35) and 3rd in the 3 meter (300.30).
Next up for Blugold swim and dive is the WIAC Championship meet February 18th - February 21st in Brown Deer Wisconsin.
