Men's Soccer earns All-WIAC honors, Carson Kowalski named Defensive Player of the Year

MADISON, Wis.--The University of Wisocnsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team earned multiple All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) honors after another dominant year in the conference. Senior Carson Kowalski was named Defensive Player of the Year for his commanding hold of the Blugold defense. Five Blugolds were selected for the All-WIAC First Team, with two additional players earning All-WIAC Honorable Mention. Andrew Phillips was further honored with a spot on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Carson Kowalski was named to the All-WIAC First Team and earned Defensive Player of the Year as he helped the Blugolds tally eight clean sheets in the regular season, including three in WIAC play. Kowalski led the team in goals and points, finding the back of the net seven times and collecting six helpers during UWEC's 16 regular season games. Kowalski currently ranks second in conference goals with three and is first in conference assists with four. This is the second year in a row Kowalski has earned the First Team honor.

Noah Malcook also earned All-WIAC first team honors ranking second in conference competition with three assists in five games. In all 16 regular season games, Malcook recorded four goals and four assists, including two game-winning goals. It is Malcook's second time being named First Team All-WIAC.

Tate McDermott continued his impact in the midfield this season, earning his second First Team All-Conference honor. With four goals and nine assists on the year, McDermott ranks second on the team in points and first in assists.

Ramzi Ouro wasted no time fitting in with the Blugolds as the senior transfer finds himself on the First Team All-WIAC list. With six goals and one assist during the regular season, including a hat trick against UW-Stevens Point, Ouro's impact helped the blugolds continue their WIAC dominance.

Sean Redmond was the final Blugold named to the First Team All-WIAC list, earning the honor for the first time in his career. Redmond's defensive prowess helped the Blugolds tally eight clean sheets on the year.

Alek Laroi and Andrew Phillips were named to the Honorable Mention All-WIAC team for their defensive contributions on the season. Phillips was also named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

The Blugolds are set for their WIAC Tournament as the 1st seed on Thursday, November 6 when they host the 4th seeded UW-Platteville Pioneers at 7 p.m. at Simpson Field.
