EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point on Saturday at Simpson Field. With this win, they were crowned WIAC Tournament Champions for the second straight year, earning them their second straight WIAC double as well. The decisive goal came in the first half and was enough to earn Eau Claire the win and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season. The home team dominated possession, registering 14 shots with 7 on target, while holding Stevens Point to just 4 shots. The Blugolds' defense was solid, with
Charlie Mroz making one save to maintain the shutout.
The first half began with the UW-Eau Claire establishing early offensive momentum, as
Ramzi Ouro quickly tested the Pointer defense with a shot in the second minute. This pressure paid off when
Carson Kowalski found the back of the net in the 14th minute off a long throw in, assisted by
Ramzi Ouro and
Owen Williams, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. Despite several more attempts on goal, including a saved shot by
Tavin Ferner, UW-Eau Claire maintained their advantage.
Stevens Point managed to create some challenges, but the Blugolds' defense held firm, preventing any significant breakthroughs. The first half concluded with UWEC sustaining a 1-0 lead, reflecting their ability to capitalize on offensive opportunities while containing the opposition.
The second half began with UW-Eau Claire maintaining their defensive stance, as
Noah Malcook and
Ramzi Ouro attempted to extend the lead with shots in the opening minutes. Ouro was active on both ends, drawing a yellow card but also contributing to the offensive pressure.
Despite multiple corner kicks and shots on goal, including attempts by
Tate McDermott, the Blugolds were unable to capitalize further. Their defense held firm, with
Charlie Mroz saving a late attempt by the Pointers in the closing minutes. The second half concluded with UW-Eau Claire preserving their 1-0 lead.
Carson Kowalski scored the game-winning goal, converting his only shot on target.
Owen Williams provided an assist on the goal, contributing to the team's offensive effort.
Ramzi Ouro led the team in shots, with two of his six attempts being on goal. In goal,
Charlie Mroz secured the win with one save and recorded a shutout over 90 minutes.
With this victory, Eau Claire has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year, showcasing their consistent performance on the national stage. UWEC holds a record of 12-2-4 overall and the Pointers stand at 13-4-4 overall.
