MENOMONIE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's track & field team competed at the Warren Bowlus Open on Friday and Saturday at the Johnson Fieldhouse on the campus of UW-Stout.
Lauren Dimler highlighted the Eau Claire performances by winning the pentathlon event with three event wins and 3484 points. In addition to the multi-athletes domination, nine other Blugolds earned event wins on the weekend.
Lauren Dimler never trailed in the Pentathlon on Friday, taking first place in three of her five events. Dimler started the day with a 9.15 second finish in the 60-meter hurdles, earning 879 points. Despite finishing second in the high jump, Dimler maintained her spot at the top with a 10.42 meter throw in the shot put. In the penultimate event, Dimler placed first in the long jump with a mark of 5.34 meters. Lauren finished off her multi-event with a 2:27.20 800-meter run to finish as the top performer of the nine athlete field. Right behind Dimler was
Brooklyn Lamers finishing with 3334 points. Lamers took the top spot in the high jump with a 1.60 meter mark to climb into second place and never leave.
Outside of Friday's multi's, the Blugolds saw nine other student athletes win their events.
Hope Schueller was never caught during the 60-meter dash with a top qualifying time of 7.89 seconds and a finals' time of 7.86 seconds.
McKenzie Kruse won the 400-meter race, being the only competitor to cross the finish line under 60 seconds. Kruse placed first with a final time of 58.95 seconds. During the 600-meter run,
Danielle Casey crossed the finish line first by nine hundrenths of a second. After leading the pack after the first 200 meters, Casey fell to second at the 400-meter mark but battled back and crossed the finish line in 1:42.51 to win the race.
Allyson Kakes set a meet record in the 200-meter race with a first place finish time of 25.54 seconds.
The field athletes also found success, including
Laura Bertrang taking the top spot during the high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters (5' 4.25").
Anna Thaler won the long jump in her second and third attempts. Thaler hit the winning mark of 5.46 meters (17' 11"), twice, to secure the event victory.
Ava Webster won the shot put with her first throw of 12.71 meters (41' 8.5"), while
Kayla Behnke ran away with the weight throw with a first place mark of 19.18 meters (62' 11.25"), defeating the next closest throw by 3.25 meters.
The Blugolds will be back in action on Saturday, February 7 when they compete at the Mark Guthrie invite hosted by UW-La Crosse. First events from the Hetzel Fieldhouse in La Crosse, Wis. are scheduled for 1 p.m.
