Colin McClowry (Sr. - Neenah, Wis.) has been selected as UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week presented by BSN Sports/Nike.
Year: Senior
Hometown: Neenah, Wis.
Major(s)/Minor(s): Major in Journalism, Minor in Multimedia Communications
Why did you choose UW-Eau Claire?
"I wanted to be able to compete right away and develop as an athlete.
Chip Schneider was the best coach I met with on college visits and I couldn't see myself running for any other school. Ultimately, Eau Claire had the coolest track uniforms which was the deciding factor for me."
How do you balance being a student-athlete?
"I function better when I'm busy and on the go so I don't really have to do anything extra to balance being a student and an athlete. I go to school during the day and try to get everything done, then I turn my attention to practice and my performance. School is a break from track and track is a break from school. It's a natural balance for me."
What moment in your athletic career at UW-Eau Claire are you most proud of?
"My most proud athletic moment would be placing 4th in the 4x400m Relay at 2022 Indoor Nats. We needed to place at least 4th to win the team championship and we did just enough to win, it was a good feeling to help earn something for the whole team. We also got a free hat out of it, which was the highlight."
What is your favorite pre/post competition snack?
"I like to eat nerd's gummy clusters a few minutes before a race to get some quick energy. Unless it's a 400m. If it's a 400m, I wouldn't dare put anything in my stomach right before I run. Made that mistake too many times."
Do you have any unique/hidden talents?
"I can spit marshmallows in the air and catch them in my mouth. I'm also undefeated in the game of Catan, not to brag."
What is your dream job?
"Collegiate Athletic Director. I love college athletics and I think I would really enjoy being able to serve and lead an athletic department someday. If that fails, I want to work on a cruise ship and monitor the soft-serve ice cream machine on board."
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
"Spain. There are some pretty cool people there, might have to check it out."
If you could spend the day with one professional athlete/celebrity, who would it be?
"I'd pick someone like Pat McAfee, a former athlete with a big following. It'd be cool to be on his podcast and talk sports for like an hour. Then I'd challenge him to a race."
What advice do you have for current/incoming Blugold student-athletes?
"Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do in your sport. If you think you can win as a freshman, go do it. Set a new precedent if the current one sucks."
What they say about Colin McClowry...
The obvious thing that Colin means to the team is that he's an extremely fast and talented athlete. But he is also the behind the scenes person who is doing much of our social media and graphics. He does without fanfare or compensation. Colin is a solid individual who models what it means to be a good teammate each day. Colin is also the best of the best. He does not settle for good when great is the ultimate goal. He carries himself on and off the track with great integrity and modesty when he could be the opposite based on his accomplishments."
-Chip Schneider, Head Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach
