SURPRISE, Ariz. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team's
Nick Amtmann (Sr. - Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) opened up The Thunderbolt tournament with an under-par first round on Sunday at Sterling Grove Golf & Country Club. Competing alongside some of the elite college golfers in the country, Amtmann is tied for 20th out of 71 golfers following the first round.
The Thunderbolt is an invitational hosted by the Golf Coaches Association of America. In order to receive an invite, players must be ranked 200-400 on the WAGR rankings, be a returning second team, third team or honorable mention PING All-American, a returning AJGA second or third team All-American, or receive a special invitation. Amtmann is competing alongside several golfers from major NCAA Division I programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amtmann made an eagle and three birdies in his first round and entered the clubhouse with a 71.
- He sits at 1-under par and is one of 32 players under par after the opening round.
- The leader is 6 under par.
UP NEXT
The second round tees off at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Time on Monday, December 30. The three-day tournament concludes on Tuesday, December 31.
