LA CROSSE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team swept UW-La Crosse 3-0 on Wednesday at Mitchell Hall, winning 25-23, 25-21, 25-21. The Blugolds hit .231 with 38 kills and held UWL to a .157 attack percentage and 32 kills. UW-Eau Claire also finished with advantages in digs (53-45), total blocks (6-4) and service aces (8-7). UW-Eau Claire has achieved at least eight service aces in six of their nine games this season.
The Blugolds took the opening set 25-23, finishing with 13 kills to UWL's nine and a 3-2 edge in team blocks.
Rachel Johnson had six kills, including the final point, while
Alex Kiebel served six straight points with two aces during a seven-point run that turned a 20-17 deficit into a 24-20 lead. Johnson achieved a season-high hitting percentage of .600.
UW-Eau Claire won the second set 25-21, using a 4-1 advantage in service aces to offset the Eagles' 13-11 edge in kills.
Alex Kiebel served four straight points as the Blugolds moved from 10-7 to 14-7, capping the stretch with an ace, and
Sasha Bovard added back-to-back aces late in the set.
Rachel Johnson had four kills for UWEC, while Ali Dehnicke led UWL with five.
The Blugolds won the third set 25-21, finishing with 14 kills to the Eagles' 10.
Mya Cinnamo had eight kills in the set, including three during a four-point stretch that turned a 19-18 deficit into a 22-19 lead, while
Hannah Thole assisted on eight UW-Eau Claire kills.
Norah Erickson recorded a season-high total of four blocks in the match.
Mya Cinnamo led the Blugolds with 13 kills and 13.5 points, surpassing her season average of 10.0 kills.
Rachel Johnson added 12 kills on a .600 hitting percentage, 10 digs and one service ace.
Alex Kiebel finished with 20 assists, three service aces and four digs.
Kaitlyn Erickson collected 15 digs and added four assists, exceeding her season average of 13.88 digs.
The result moved UWEC to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the WIAC, while the Eagles fell to 5-6 and 0-1.
