EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team defeated Northwestern-St. Paul 3-1 on Wednesday at The Sonnentag Event Center, taking the match 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19. The Blugolds finished with 67 kills to Northwestern-St. Paul's 48 and added 10 service aces. UW-Eau Claire's 16.75 kills per set surpassed its season average of 13.4, while its 10 service aces exceeded its season average of 9.11. After dropping the second set, UW-Eau Claire won the final two sets while hitting .350 in the third and holding Northwestern-St. Paul to nine kills in the fourth.
The Blugolds took the first set 25-22, using a 5-1 stretch to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 9-6 lead. UWEC finished with 18 kills to Northwestern-St. Paul's 11, including eight from
Mya Cinnamo and four from
Rachel Johnson.
Northwestern took the second set 25-22, finishing with a 16-15 edge in kills and a 3-1 advantage in service aces while Ana Egge recorded eight kills. The Blugolds cut a 20-13 deficit to 24-22, with
Rachel Johnson finishing with four kills and
Autumn Stream adding three.
UW-Eau Claire won the third set 25-21, using a 6-0 run from 7-5 to 13-5 to build the set's largest supported cushion.
Norah Erickson had six of the Blugolds' 18 kills, while
Lili Hagg and
Brynlee Major added four apiece; the Eagles recorded three service aces and four kills.
The Blugolds won the fourth set 25-19, finishing with a 16-9 advantage in kills and five service aces.
Mya Cinnamo had seven kills in the set, while
Alia Schlimgen added two aces and
Hannah Thole served five straight points during a 6-0 run that moved UWEC from 7-5 to 13-5.
Mya Cinnamo finished with 18 kills while hitting .342 and totaled 18.5 points.
Alex Kiebel recorded 33 assists, eight digs and two service aces.
Rachel Johnson added 12 kills and collected 21 digs, marking a career-high total. Major registered 11 kills, surpassing her season average of 2.16 kills per set. Schlimgen tallied four service aces and 12 digs.
UW-Eau Claire improves to 9-1 overall and extend their win streak to nine wins in a row. Northwestern-St. Paul falls to 9-4 overall.
