EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swept Saint Benedict 3-0 on Friday at The Sonnentag, winning by set scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19. The Blugolds hit .379 with 42 kills and nine attack errors, including .519 in the first set and .407 in the second. UW-Eau Claire also had a 10-1 advantage in service aces and finished with 48 digs to the Bennies' 34. With her ninth kill of the evening,
Mya Cinnamo became the 18th Blugold in program history to reach 1,000 career kills during the win.
The Blugolds reached the 25-point mark with a 25-14 opening-set win, finishing with a 17-9 advantage in kills and three service aces.
Mya Cinnamo led the attack with five kills, while
Alex Kiebel served back-to-back aces during the set and
Alia Schlimgen added another ace.
UW-Eau Claire won the second set 25-12, using a 7-of-8 stretch to move from 2-1 to 9-2. The Blugolds finished the set with 14 kills and four service aces, led by
Rachel Johnson's five kills, while the Bennies totaled nine kills.
The Blugolds opened the third set with a 6-0 run behind
Alex Kiebel's serve, including two service aces, and went on to win the set 25-19.
Mya Cinnamo captued her milestone kill on her ninth kill of the evening, pushing Eau Claire's lead to 9-4. UW-Eau Claire finished with 11 kills to the Bennies' 10 and held a 3-1 edge in service aces.
Mya Cinnamo recorded 10 kills on 17 attacks while hitting .588.
Rachel Johnson also finished with 10 kills and added seven digs.
Alex Kiebel posted 17 assists, eight digs and four service aces.
Kaitlyn Erickson collected 14 digs, four assists and three service aces.
The Blugolds improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 at the Sonnentag. The Bennies are 6-5 overall.
