DAVENPORT, Fla. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (5-3) edged out St. Olaf (4-7) with a 9–8 victory on Friday, capitalizing on a decisive seven-run seventh inning. The Blugolds compiled 12 hits while overcoming three errors to secure the non-conference win.
In a tense ninth inning, St. Olaf made a last-ditch effort, narrowing the gap with an RBI single by Breckin Hadley. However, UW-Eau Claire held on, showcasing their ability to withstand late-game pressure. The decisive moment came in the seventh inning when UWEC exploded for seven runs, capitalizing on errors and timely hitting.
Austin Buck delivered a crucial two-RBI single, and
Cole Clausen added an RBI walk, helping to build a commanding lead.
Earlier in the game, UW-Eau Claire had found themselves trailing after the third inning due to defensive miscues that allowed three unearned runs. The team regained momentum in the fourth when
Logan Hesselman scored on a double by Clausen. The pivotal seventh inning was fueled by
Kellen Smith's leadoff double, followed by a string of hits and walks that overwhelmed the opposing pitching.
