ST PETER, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team participated in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional on Friday and Saturday. The Blugolds garnered five match wins over the weekend with twelve student athletes competing at the host school, Gustavus Adolphus College.
Andrew Mueller found one of the first wins for UWEC with a first round victory over Macallester's Beckett Annes, 4-6, 6-4, 10-0.
Pablo Rincón captured a match win, after a first round bye, over Bethel's Watson Sheard 6-0, 5-7, 10-4.
In doubles play,
Pablo Rincón and
Ethan Leeser were victorious in their first round matchup with a 8-6 win over St. Norbert's Daniels and Garland.
Sam Murillo and
Andrew Mueller also picked up a first round win for the Blugolds, defeating Luther's Stoughton and Biro-Moore, 8-3. Closing things out for Eau Claire was
Jack Michaud and
Logan Carroll who picked up a first round victory over Concordia College's (Minn.) Bitz and Cook.
The Blugolds will return to action in the spring with nonconference play. UWEC will host Macalester College on Thursday, February 5 at the John and Fay Menard Tennis Center at 7 p.m.
