OSHKOSH, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams competed at the opening day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships on Friday at UW-Oshkosh.
Tommy Mestnik (Sr. - Prior Lake, Minn.) won the conference title in men's javelin to highlight the Blugolds' performance on the opening day.
Mestnik won the second WIAC javelin title of his career with a throw of 54.79 meters. It's the second year in a row he topped the podium at the WIAC Championships.
In all, the Blugolds had several competitors finish in the top three of the finals their respective events.

UW-Eau Claire also had several athletes advance through preliminaries to Saturday's finals. Notably,
Stefan Klechefski had the fastest time in the men's 100-meter dash prelims, while
Blake Postler and
McKenzie Kruse did the same in the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles, respectively.
In the multi events,
Jace Stolte sits third in decathlon while
Lauren Dimler is third in heptathlon.
