EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team is going dancing.
The Blugolds were announced as part of the 2025 NCAA Tournament field on Monday. UW-Eau Claire will travel to Angola, Indiana, and take on Baldwin Wallace in the opening round of the Trine Regional on Thursday. First pitch is at 1:30 p.m. Eastern at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field.
UW-Eau Claire received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Blugolds are 27-14 this season. Baldwin Wallace also received an at-large spot and enters the tournament at 31-4.
"(The team) believed in their ability, they believed in the program, they believed in the culture. They believed they could do it," Blugolds Head Coach
Leslie Huntington said. "We've got a tall task in front of us now, but I think we've got a foundation of belief, and I think anything can happen."
The Blugolds' last NCAA appearance came in 2022, when they went 1-2 in regionals. This will be the 14th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. UW-Eau Claire sports a 38-24 all-time record in NCAA Tournament games and has finished in the top four at nationals four times, including the program's lone national championship in 2008.
The Trine regional runs from May 15-18 in a double-elimination format. The rest of the regional field features the host Trine and Pittsburgh Greensburg. Trine enters regionals with a 36-5 record, while Pittsburgh Greensburg is 21-17. The regional champion advances to super regionals from May 23-25.
"I don't know much about Baldwin Wallace, but I know they'll be good competition," Blugolds outfielder
Paige Lathrop (Jr. – South Milwaukee, Wis.) said. "I'm excited to see how the game goes and give us another chance to make a run."
