OSHKOSH, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a final score of 11–1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at Mary Beth Nienhaus Stadium on Friday. The Blugolds managed three hits, including a double, but were unable to overcome the opponent's offensive surge.
After a scoreless opening inning, UW-Stevens Point took the lead in the second with a RBI double, making it 1–0 in favor of the Pointers. The third inning saw UWSP extend its lead significantly. After three singles, the Pointers tallied a RBI single and a 3-RBI double to add to their lead. A double steal before the end of the inning brought the score to 6–0.
In the fourth inning, UWSP added five more runs, including a bases-loaded walk, another 3-RBI double and a single, pushing the score to 11–0.
UWEC broke through in the fifth inning after
Molly Marquardt singled, and pinch runner
Kennedy Tumm scored on
Paige Lathrop's RBI single, closing the game at 11–1. No more runs came to the Blugolds in the bottom of the fifth as they were eliminated from the WIAC Tournament.
Kasey Felden started for UWEC, pitching two innings, giving up six earned runs on six hits, and issuing two walks, while recording one strikeout.
Megan Standiford followed with 1 1/3 innings, surrendering five earned runs on three hits and three walks.
Claire Beck closed out the pitching efforts on the mound for UWEC, pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowing two hits and no runs.
Paige Lathrop contributed with one hit and one RBI, showcasing her ability to drive in runs.
Breeley Gluch added to the offense with a double, demonstrating her skill in extra-base hits.
Kennedy Tumm made an impact as a pinch runner by scoring a run.
Molly Marquardt provided a hit coming off the bench, contributing to the team's efforts at the plate.
UWEC now holds a record of 28-13 as UW-Stevens Point improves to the same record of 28-13.
The Blugolds will await their fate for the 2026 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament. The selection show will be held on Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. CST on NCAA.com.
