LA CROSSE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams competed at UW-La Crosse's Uncaged Eagle Open on Friday. The Blugolds posted several all-time performances in a standout day.
Notably,
Yakob Ekoue (Sr. - Hopkins, Minn.) broke a 13-year-old school outdoor record in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 62.58 meters. That shattered the previous record of 60.07 meters set in 2012 by Tyler Genovese. Ekoue won the event handily on Friday.
In track events, the Blugolds also posted some of the fastest times in program history.
Stefan Klechefski (Sr. - Roberts, Wis./River Falls) swept the men's 100- and 200-meter dashes. He ran a 10.28-second 100-meter dash, which ranks as the second-fastest outdoor time in UWEC's history. He also posted a 21.20-second run in the 200, which is the third-best time in program history. In the women's 100-meter dash,
Allyson Kakes (So. - Two Rivers, Wis.) had a run of 11.87 seconds — also the second-best time in school history.
Kylee Grabarski (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) ran a 55.75 in the women's 400-meter dash to win the event. Her time is the third-fastest in Blugold history.
Lauren Jex (Jr. - Germantown, Wis.) had a time of 2:13.41 in the women's 800, which also ranks third in the Blugold record book.
