BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team dropped its final two games of the Illinois Wesleyan Invite on Sunday at Inspiration Field. The Blugolds fell to the College of Wooster 3-1 and Illinois Wesleyan 6-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (18-6) couldn't overcome four errors against Wooster (7-15). All three of the Scots' runs were unearned in the scorebook.
- Wooster scored once in the bottom of the third and added two more runs in the fourth. The Blugolds pulled one back on an RBI single from Paige Lathrop (Jr. - South Milwaukee, Wis.) in the top of the seventh, but couldn't complete the comeback. They stranded the bases loaded to end the game.
- Megan Patterson (Sr. - Johnsburg, Ill.) had two hits to lead the offense. Jacie Schultz (Sr. - Lake Crystal, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial) took a tough-luck loss in the circle. She pitched six innings and allowed no earned runs. She struck out three.
- UW-Eau Claire held a two-run lead against Illinois Wesleyan after Claire Beck (Sr. - Jefferson, Wis.) blasted a three-run homer in the third. It put the Blugolds up 4-2.
- The Titans took the lead for good on a three-run home run of their own in the fourth inning. They added an insurance run in the fifth.
- Molly Marquardt (So. - Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) had an RBI double in the game for the Blugolds. Beck pitched a complete game and struck out four.
