EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team lost the final two contests of a four-game series against UW-Stout on Sunday at Carson Park. The Blugolds fell to the Blue Devils 12-8 and 25-4 (7 inn.).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (6-13, 0-8) fell into a seven-run deficit through six innings in Game 1, but put up six runs in the seventh to get back into it.
- Drew Salyers (Sr. - Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), Austin Buck (Jr. - Afton, Minn./Stillwater) and Jack Eustice (Fr. - Rochester, Minn./Century) all had RBI singles in the seventh. It helped the Blugolds cut the deficit to one run at 8-7.
- The Blue Devils (5-12) padded their lead with three more runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. The Blugolds scored a run on an error in the eighth, but never got closer.
- Austin Curti (Fr. - River Falls, Wis.), Cole Clausen (Jr. - Prior Lake, Minn.) and Eustice had two hits apiece in Game 1.
- In Game 2, the Blue Devils scored four runs or more in five of the seven innings. Their 25 runs rank as the second-most ever scored by any opponent in UW-Eau Claire's program history. UW-Stout was powered by four home runs.
- Salyers hit a solo homer for the Blugolds and Buck hit a two-run shot over the fences. Buck finished with 3 RBI in Game 2 after going 3-for-3. Salyers had two hits.
