EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team fell in the first two games of a four-game set against UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at Carson Park, dropping a pair of contests 10-0 and 17-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (6-17, 0-12) dropped both games in seven innings.
- The Titans (16-8, 7-5) held the Blugolds to three hits in Game 1. A pair of homers helped UW-Oshkosh build a five-run lead through four innings, and the Blugolds couldn't recover.
- The score remained 5-0 through six innings before the Titans plated five more in the seventh. It was enough to end the game early after UW-Eau Claire went scoreless in the bottom half.
- Brennan Cohen (Sr. - Vestavia Hills, Ala.) started on the mound and worked six innings. He allowed five runs and struck out two.
- The Blugolds fell into a hole early again in Game 2, and despite a late push, couldn't claw back.
- UW-Oshkosh scored four runs in the second inning to take the lead, and led 13-1 after five and a half innings.
- UW-Eau Claire pushed back with four runs in the sixth, getting RBI singles from Cole Clausen (Jr. - Prior Lake, Minn.), Kyle Babin (Jr. - Whittier, Calif./St. John Bosco) and Brayton Thillman (So. - Eau Claire, Wis./North). It cut the Titans' lead to 13-5, but UW-Oshkosh scored four more times in the seventh to put the game away.
- Austin Curti (Fr. - River Falls, Wis.) led the lineup with two hits in Game 2. Evan Fischer (Fr. - White Bear Lake, Minn./Roseville) struck out six in a five-inning start.
UP NEXT
The series between the Blugolds and Titans concludes on Sunday, April 13. The doubleheader's start time was changed from its original noon first pitch, and will now begin at 10 a.m. at Carson Park.
