EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against UW-Oshkosh on Sunday at Carson Park. The Blugolds fell 2-0 in 12 innings in the first game and 14-2 in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nicholas Meuser (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) turned in one of the best outings of his career to keep the Blugolds (6-19, 0-14) in Game 1. The right-hander pitched nine shutout innings and struck out five. It was the first nine-inning start by a Blugold pitcher since the 2023 season.
- Meuser's masterful stint kept the Titans off the board, but UW-Oshkosh (18-8, 9-5) was equally effective on the mound. They kept the Blugolds scoreless through nine and the game went to extra innings.
- The Titans finally broke through in the 12th inning, using an RBI double to break the stalemate before adding another run on an RBI triple. The Blugolds didn't have an answer in the bottom half of the frame.
- Drew Salyers (Sr. - Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) went 3-for-6 in Game 1 to pace the Blugolds. It was his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
- UW-Oshkosh broke open Game 2 with four runs in the third inning, riding a pair of home runs to do so. The Titans tacked on single runs in both the sixth and seventh to build a seven-run lead.
- RBI singles from Connor Weik (Jr. - Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) and Cade Mueller (Sr. - Coal City, Ill.) in the bottom of the seventh got the Blugolds on the board, but they couldn't get any closer. The Titans scored seven more times across the final two frames.
- Austin Curti (Fr. - River Falls, Wis.) had two hits to lead the lineup in Game 2. Draza Dupor (So. - Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) struck out four on the mound across six innings of work, but was tagged with the loss.
