COCOA BEACH, Fla. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team pushed its win streak to 12 games with a pair of victories to close out its time at the Space Coast Spring Games on Friday. The Blugolds defeated Hamilton College 8-5 and Rutgers-Newark 11-0 in five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A five-run fourth inning made the difference against Hamilton for the Blugolds (14-2). Hamilton led 4-3 entering the bottom of the fourth, but the Blugolds scored four times on errors and another run on a squeeze bunt.
- Hamilton scored once in the top of the seventh but couldn't get any closer.
- Jacie Schultz (Sr. - Lake Crystal, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial) had another strong outing in the circle. She threw a complete game and allowed three earned runs. She struck out two.
- Paige Lathrop (Jr. - South Milwaukee, Wis.) went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Kenna Strunsee (Sr. - Waukesha, Wis./South), Molly Marquardt (Sr. - Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) and Mila Photopoulos (So. - Mundelein, Ill.) also had multi-hit games
- Lauren Trottier (So. - Burlington, Wis./Elkhorn) pitched a complete game shutout against Rutgers-Newark. She struck out four.
- The Blugolds broke the second game open with four runs in the third and four in the fourth. Marquardt hit an RBI double and Brooklyn Swanepoel (Fr. - New Richmond, Wis.) added a two-RBI triple in the fourth.
- Strunsee and Lathrop had three hits each. Marquardt, Swanepoel and Kendall Lenz (So. - Naperville, Ill./Central) had two hits apiece.

The Blugolds host the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Tuesday, March 25. The doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse in Eau Claire.
