ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams produced several All-Americans on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Golisano Training Center on Friday. The Blugolds had three first-team All-Americans and three others earned second-team honors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emilee Booker (Sr. – Genoa City, Wis./Badger) became an All-American for the second time in her career by placing third in the pentathlon. She tallied a score of 3,693 in the event. Her third-place finish was the best by a Blugold on Friday.
- Emma Gruen (Sr. – Elroy, Wis./Royall) made it two Blugold All-Americans in the multi by earning second-team honors. She placed 11th with 3,503 to earn her second All-America honor as a Blugold.
- Teagan Jones (Sr. – Lake Zurich, Ill.) and Kayla Behnke (Sr. – Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) both earned first team All-America honors in the women's weight throw. Jones placed fifth and Behnke took seventh. Jones' best throw was 18.81 meters and Behnke was close behind at 18.10 meters. It was the fifth All-America honor of Jones' career, and her second in the weight throw. Behnke is now a six-time All-American and also earned her second All-America honor in the weight throw.
- Stefan Klechefski (Sr. – River Falls, Wis.) placed 13th in the men's 60-meter dash to earn second team All-America honors. He crossed the line in 6.82 seconds. It is his seventh All-America honor as a Blugold and his third in the 60-meter dash.
- Johnny Botsch (Fr. – Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) earned the first All-America distinction of his career by placing 15th to earn second-team honors. He hit a height of 4.75 meters.
- The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Kylee Grabarski (Jr. – Waunakee, Wis.), McKenzie Kruse (Fr. – Spring Green, Wis./River Valley), Allyson Kakes (So. – Two Rivers, Wis.) and Mya Cinnamo (So. – Rosemount, Minn.) will race again on Saturday after finishing 6th in the qualifying races with a time of 3:51.17.
- Entering the final day of the meet, the Blugold women are tied for sixth in the team standings. The Blugold men are still looking to score their first team points.
