EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team hosted the Don Parker Memorial Open (sponsored by Festival Foods) on Saturday at the McPhee Center.
Zak McPhee (Fr. - Duluth, Minn./Proctor) won the 184-pound title to highlight the Blugolds' showing at their home tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McPhee went 4-0 to clinch the championship at 184 pounds. He won his first match by pin, defeated Augsburg's Carter Sorenson by 4-1 decision in the quarterfinals and knocked off North Dakota State's Andrew McMonagle by 12-4 major decision in the semis. McPhee earned first place with a 7-3 decision over St. Cloud State's Tyson Meyer in the finals.
- Calvin Singewald (Fr. - Cannon Falls, Minn.) took third place at 133 pounds. He won his opening match by pin and advanced to the semifinals with a 10-2 major decision over Augsburg's Thomas Oswald. After dropping his semifinal match, Singewald recovered with a pin in the third-place match.
- Travis Moelter (So. - River Falls, Wis.) and Tristan Drier (So. - Cadott, Wis.) both earned sixth-place finishes. Moelter, wrestling at 133 pounds, went 3-2 at the tournament, picking up a pin and a technical fall. Drier, wrestling at 174, won his first three matches before submitting medical forfeits the rest of the way.
- UW-Eau Claire had 20 wrestlers in action in total.
- There were no team scores tallied.
- This year's tournament marked the first since the passing of longtime Blugold wrestling coach Don Parker. A moment of silence was held prior to the tournament in honor of Parker, who passed away last November. He coached UW-Eau Claire for 32 years.

The postseason gets underway with the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships on Saturday, February 15. UW-Whitewater is hosting this year's conference tournament. Wrestling begins at 11 a.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
