EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire dominated in a 3-0 victory over Wis.-Stout on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds controlled the match with 34 shots, including 15 on goal, and secured a shutout with goalkeeper contributions from a one-save performance. Wis.-Eau Claire capitalized early, scoring twice in the first half before adding a third goal in the second half to seal the win.
The first half commenced with UW-Eau Claire asserting early offensive pressure against UW-Stout. UW-Eau Claire's
Tate McDermott broke the deadlock in the 5th minute, scoring with assists from
Noah Malcook and
Ramzi Ouro, establishing an early lead. Throughout the half, the Blugolds maintained offensive momentum with consistent shot attempts, pressuring UW-Stout's goalkeeper, Eddie Puglisi, who recorded multiple saves.
UW-Eau Claire extended their lead in the 39th minute when
Oge Enwemnwa netted a goal, assisted by
Aiden Judickas and
Alek Laroi. The home team's defense, led by goalkeeper
Kalan McIlveen, remained resolute, preventing any breakthroughs from UW-Stout. The first half concluded with the Blugolds holding a 2-0 advantage.
The second half began with UWEC maintaining offensive pressure, marked by
Tate McDermott striking the woodwork early at the 45:41 mark. Despite multiple shots on goal, including attempts by
Alvaro Alanis and Malcook, UW-Stout's goalkeeper, Puglisi, managed to keep the ball out of the net initially.
The Blugolds' persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Enwemnwa found the back of the net, extending their lead to 3-0. Closing out the half, the team held firm defensively, limiting Wis.-Stout's opportunities and preserving the clean sheet as the match concluded 3-0 in favor of UW-Eau Claire.
Enwemnwa led the Blugolds with two goals, converting both of his shots on target. McDermott added a goal and finished with four shots, two of which were on goal, including the game-winner. Malcook contributed with one assist and led the team in shots with six, two of which were on goal.
Krystof Cicha consistently pressured the opposing defense with five shots, four landing on target.
UWEC improved to 6-2-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play following the victory. Wis.-Stout fell to 1-8-3 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play after the loss.
Looking ahead, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host Bethel University on October 7. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Simpson Field in Eau Claire, Wis.
