EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team defeated Bethel (MN) 2-1 on Tuesday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds took an early lead with two first-half goals, securing the win despite the Royals' late effort in the second half. The Blugolds' defense was pivotal, with their goalkeeper,
Charlie Mroz, making eight crucial saves to preserve the victory.
The first half began with Eau Claire establishing early momentum.
Noah Malcook opened the scoring in the 6th minute, assisted by
Owen Williams and
Krystof Cicha, putting the home team ahead 1-0. UWEC continued to press, and in the 26th minute,
Elijah Post doubled the lead with a goal assisted by
Tate McDermott and
Alek Laroi.
Throughout the period, the Blugolds maintained defensive resilience, with
Charlie Mroz making key saves against the Royals' attempts. The first half concluded with UW-Eau Claire leading 2-0, having effectively capitalized on key opportunities while containing the opposition's offense.
The second period began with Bethel attempting to shift the momentum early, but UWEC's goalkeeper, Mroz, made crucial saves to maintain the lead. The Blugolds responded with multiple attempts at goal, including shots from Laroi and Malcook, though they were unable to extend their advantage.
Despite Eau Claire's offensive efforts, Bethel found the back of the net in the 78th minute with a goal off a free kick, narrowing the lead. UW-Eau Claire continued to pressure, creating several chances in the closing moments, but the period ended with the home team holding a slim 2-1 lead.
Wis.-Eau Claire improved to 7-2-2 overall following their victory and the Royals fell to 7-3-2 overall.
Looking ahead, the UW-Eau Claire wil return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and host UW-River Falls on October 11 at 7 p.m. The matchup will take place at Simpson Field in Eau Claire, Wis.
