EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire shut out the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 4-0 on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds dominated the match, with 13 shots on goal compared to the visitors' four. Two goals in each half secured the victory, with the home team's defense maintaining a clean sheet through 90 minutes.
The first half commenced with UW-Eau Claire establishing early pressure against UW-River Falls.
Owen Williams and
Sean Redmond each tested the visitors' goalkeeper with shots, but it was
Noah Malcook who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, assisted by Williams and
Tate McDermott. The Blugolds maintained their offensive momentum, consistently challenging the opposing defense.
As the half progressed, UWEC continued to apply relentless pressure, with multiple corner kicks and attempts on goal.
Carson Kowalski extended the lead in the 44th minute, assisted by
Alvaro Alanis, solidifying the Blugolds' advantageous position. The half closed with UW-Eau Claire holding a 2-0 lead, showcasing their effective offensive strategy and strong defensive efforts.
The second half began with the Blugolds continuing to press the attack, quickly making an impact when McDermott scored in the 64th minute, assisted by Malcook and Kowalski, extending the lead to 3-0. Just minutes later, Kowalski found the net himself in the 69th minute, with McDermott providing the assist, pushing the score to 4-0. Charlie Mroz made crucial saves to keep the visitors scoreless. The half closed with the Blugolds maintaining their advantage, securing a 4-0 victory.
Malcook scored one goal and contributed one assist while taking four shots, including three on goal. McDermott recorded a goal and added two assists, making his only shot on target count. Kowalski tallied two goals and one assist, converting two out of three shots on goal. Mroz, in goal, made four saves and secured a shutout in a full 90 minutes of play.
UW-Eau Claire improved to 8-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play. The visitors fell to 3-6-3 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
