EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds took an early lead with a first-half goal, among 18 total shots, including 12 on goal. The Warhawks equalized in the second half, despite being outshot, with only five attempts. Both teams' defenses held firm, with Whitewater's goalkeeper making 11 saves.
The first half began with the Blugolds applying early pressure on the Warhawks' defense. Within the opening four minutes, shots by
Noah Malcook and
Owen Williams were both saved by the Warhawks' goalkeeper, Austin Waite. Despite several attempts, including efforts from
Krystof Cicha and
Elijah Post, UW-Eau Claire was unable to break through until the 27th minute.
Carson Kowalski and Williams provided the assists for
Ramzi Ouro's decisive goal, putting UWEC ahead 1-0. The Blugolds maintained offensive momentum, attempting several more shots before halftime, while limiting Whitewater's attacking opportunities. The half concluded with UW-Eau Claire leading 1-0, having established a strong defensive front and maintaining control.
The second half began with UW-Eau Claire pressing offensively, as Ouro quickly attempted a shot within the first minute.
Tavin Ferner and Kowalski continued to challenge the opposing defense with attempts, but visiting goalkeeper Waite managed key saves to keep the score level.
Despite UWEC's attacking efforts, the Warhawks found the back of the net at the 58:20 mark with a goal from Cooper Re, assisted by Aidan Glancey. The home team responded with increased pressure, generating multiple shots and corner opportunities, but Waite's consistent saves prevented any breakthrough. The half closed with a 1-1 tie, as neither team was able to alter the score in the final minutes.
Williams contributed an assist and recorded two shots on goal. Kowalski also added an assist while registering three shots, with two on target. Ouro scored the team's only goal, finishing one of his two shots on target.
Charlie Mroz played the entire match in goal, making one save on five shots faced.
UW-Eau Claire stands at 9-2-4 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. The Warhawks hold a record of 12-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play.
