PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (www.blugolds.com) - The UW-Platteville Invitational brought about some of the top performances in the nation this past weekend. The Blugolds left their mark on the meet with 5 first-place finishes between the men's and women's teams. In her Javelin debut, Emily Williams threw the javelin 36.21m to win the meet. A perennial conference qualifying high jumper, Emily has been training and excelling at Javelin throughout the past offseason and this was her first chance to show what she can do in competition. Big things will be coming for Emily.
For the women's throws, Kayla Behnke won the discus (44.50m) and Teagan Jones won the hammer throw (42.56m). Raina Stecher threw a big personal record in the shot put with a throw of 13.67m. This throw will likely qualify Raina for the NCAA Championships in May. On the men's side, Yakob EKoue won Discus (52.84m) and placed 2nd in Shot Put (17.60m) and Hammer Throw (58.46m).
On the track, Jaryn Johannson placed first in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:04.69s. The men's 4x100m Relay placed second with a time of 41.19s. The team of Sam Piontek, Colin McClowry, Connor Jankuski, and Stefan Klechfski recorded the fastest 4x100m season opener in school history. The squad will look to drop some time at the Drake Relays in two weeks.
