WHITEWATER, Wis. (
www.blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up their events in the 2024 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships on Saturday. Both squads placed 3
rd amongst the eight teams competing as the men finished with 85 points and the women recorded 90 points.
Max Foland (Jr. – Middleton, Wis.) picked up where he left off on day one and was crowned champion in the men's heptathlon with 5097 points. Foland picked up a 2
nd place finish in the 60m hurdles and placed 6
th in the pole vault and 1000m to secure his WIAC crown.
Yakob Ekoue (Sr. – Hopkins, Minn.) capped off a stellar weekend at the conference meet as he placed second in the weight throw and broke the school record with a throw of 20.11m.
Mikayla Hady (Sr. – Mount Auburn, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) ran an excellent race during the women's 800m as she placed 2
nd with a time of 2:17.24.
Sam Verkerke (Jr. – White Bear Lake, Minn.) also found himself with a 2
nd place podium finish. During the men's 800m race, Verkerke clocked in with a time of 1:51.52.
The men's 4x400 relay team of
Sam Schreiber (Jr. – Kimberly, Wis.),
Colin McClowry (Jr. – Neenah, Wis.),
Kevin Eisenzimmer (Sr. – Mineral Point, Wis.), and
Josiah Ziebell (Sr. – Mauston, Wis.) earned themselves a 2
nd place finish with a time of 3:17.28. Other Blugolds making top-3 podium finishes were
Anna Schueth (Sr. – Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) who placed 3
rd in the 800m, and
Kayla Behnke (Jr. – Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) who placed 3
rd in the weight throw.
The Blugolds will turn their attention to one last meet before the NCAA Championships as the teams will travel to Waverly, Iowa on Saturday, March 2
nd for the Wartburg Last Chance Qualifier. First events are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
