EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team dropped a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup to No. 22/24 UW-La Crosse 34-7 on Saturday at Carson Park.
Harry Roubidoux (Sr. – Winneconne, Wis.) became the second quarterback in program history to throw 50 career touchdown passes, but his scoring pass in the fourth quarter wasn't enough to knock off the defending WIAC champions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored the game's first 34 points, but didn't start to pull away until the third quarter. It was a 10-0 game at halftime.
- UW-Eau Claire (2-4, 1-2) played well defensively early on, highlighted by a fourth-down stop in the red zone during the first half. UW-La Crosse's only points before the break came on a field goal in the first quarter and a nine-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
- UW-La Crosse began to pull away in the third, when the Eagles scored a pair of touchdowns through the air to make it a 24-0 game.
- The Eagles closed their account with a field goal and a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to go ahead by 34.
- The Blugolds' lone score came when Roubidoux connected with Isaac Garside (Sr. – Bonduel, Wis.) for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 5:10 left in the fourth quarter. It was Roubidoux's 50th career touchdown pass and Garside's 15th career touchdown reception. Roubidoux ranks second all-time at UW-Eau Claire in passing touchdowns, only behind John Clark and his record 63.
- The Eagles out-gained UW-Eau Claire 492-176.
- Roubidoux completed 16 of 24 passes for 145 yards. He was intercepted twice. Franko Williams (So. – Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) had two receptions for 57 yards, and Garside finished with four catches for 52 yards.
- UW-La Crosse was able to contain the Blugolds' ground game, which finished with 28 rushing yards.
- Peyton Erikson (Jr. – Rhinelander, Wis.) led UW-Eau Claire's defense with 11 total tackles, a career high. He also recovered a fumble. Brady Hoffner (Jr. – Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) and Jack Tomkins (Fr. – Evergreen Park, Ill./Marist) both forced fumbles.
