MENOMONIE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team dropped the annual War on I-94 rivalry game to UW-Stout on Saturday, falling to the Blue Devils 42-24 at Williams Stadium. Blugolds quarterback
Harry Roubidoux (Sr. - Winneconne, Wis.) had one of the most productive passing performances in program history, but it wasn't quite enough as UW-Eau Claire dropped to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in the WIAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds held an early lead, but the Blue Devils — who received votes in both the D3football.com Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Poll this week — began to break the game open with a 21-point second quarter. UW-Stout opened a 32-point lead early in the fourth quarter before UW-Eau Claire scored a pair of touchdowns late to slash the deficit.
- Roubidoux completed 36 of 54 pass attempts for 398 yards and two scores. His 36 completions are the second-most in a single game in Blugold history, ranking only behind Kyle Paulson's 38 against UW-Stevens Point in 2009. Roubidoux's 54 attempts tied for the fifth-most by a quarterback in UW-Eau Claire history, and his 398 yards are also tied for fifth-most all-time.
- Roubidoux's first touchdown pass of the day put UW-Eau Claire ahead in the first quarter. He connected with Yaach Chuol (Jr. - Coon Rapids, Minn./Centennial) on a six-yard score just over three minutes into the game, putting the Blugolds ahead 7-0.
- The Blue Devils answered with three straight touchdowns across the first and second quarters, including a 90-yard pass to make it 21-7 with 5:26 left until halftime.
- Connor Radaj (So. - Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) made a 30-yard field goal with 1:56 left until halftime to pull the Blugolds within 11 of the lead at 21-10. However, UW-Stout scored another passing touchdown with 17 seconds left in the second quarter to take a 28-10 lead into the break.
- The Blue Devils added another touchdown in the closing minute of the third quarter and another early in the fourth to go ahead 42-10. The Blugolds didn't fold though, as Sam Schradle (Jr. - Cumberland, Wis.) ran for a one-yard score and Roubidoux hit Franko Williams (So. - Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) with a four-yard touchdown pass in the final four minutes of the game.
- The Blugolds finished with 431 yards through the air and added 19 on the ground. Christian Torgerson (Fr. - Turtle Lake, Wis.) carried the ball four times for 15 yards.
- Isaac Garside (Sr. - Bonduel, Wis.) led the receiving corps with 10 catches for 168 yards. Garside now has 172 career receptions and is five catches away from becoming UW-Eau Claire's all-time leader. Williams finished with four catches for 59 yards and Chuol had six receptions for 53 yards. Landon Tonsager (So. - Eagan, Minn.) added five catches and 47 yards, and Nolan Stans (Sr. - Spring Valley, Wis.) had six catches for 43 yards.
- Defensively, Walker Korish (Fr. - Turtle Lake, Wis.) led the Blugolds with eight total tackles.
