LA CROSSE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team fell short in their Friday series against UW-La Crosse, 13-4 and 13-3 (7 innings).

The Blugolds fell behind 4-1 in game one before a Will Jilek (Sr.- Hudson, WI) single in the third inning scored Anthony Pogodzinski (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/North).
An inning later, Eau Claire again scored a run, when Jacob Lacy (Jr.-Shawano, WI) hit an RBI single to knock in Otto Treichel (So.-Madison, WI/West), who had reached base on a walk. Treichel would record an RBI a couple innings later, with Nate Witte (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) scoring this time.
Even though the Blugold offense was getting on base, they fell behind La Crosse, with the score 10-3 heading into the final two innings. Logan Matson (Jr.-Neillsville, WI) hit a sacrifice fly to score David Janssen (Fr.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) in the top of the eighth, but the potential comeback came up short.
Eau Claire finished with six hits in the opener, all coming from different batters. Pogodzinski had their lone extra-base hit of the game, coming in the third.
The Blugolds struck first in the second game, with Treichel recording an RBI single, scoring Janssen. Treichel would record another RBI in the third, again scoring Janssen.
Even though the Blugolds finished with ten hits in game two, the offense didn't score another run until the seventh inning and a big fifth inning from the Eagles proved to be the difference.. Eau Claire's final run was from Witte, who scored off a single from Janssen.
Treichel, Henry Pitsch (Fr.-Madison, WI/West) and Jilek led the way for the Blugolds, all with two hits apiece. Matson also helped with a double in the game, while Janssen was a playmaker on the base paths, finishing with two steals.
Eau Claire once again squares off against UW-La Crosse, with a doubleheader slated for tomorrow and first pitch times at 1 and 3 PM. Once again, the series will be played at Bollinger Field.
