Men's Outdoor Track & Field Takes Second at Wartburg Select

WAVERLY, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The 17th-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's outdoor track & field team took second place out of eight teams at the Wartburg Select today.

Wartburg won the meet with 176.5 points while the Blugolds were second with 171. UW-La Crosse finished third with 134.

Three Blugolds won events.

In the field, Tony Sigrist (Sr.-Byron, Minn.) won the hammer throw with a distance of 58.32 meters (191-4), setting a new school record. The previous school record was 57.12 meters (187-5), set by Dan Schmidt on May 30, 1992. The toss allowed Schmidt to finish in fifth place at nationals in 1992.

In the 5,000-meter run, Michael Borden (Jr.-Holmen, Wis.) won with a time of 15:26.62, leading four Blugolds who finished in the top five.

Thurgood Dennis (Fr.-Allouez, Minn./Green Bay Notre Dame) also recorded a win as he finished with a time of 48.34 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

Next weekend, Blugolds will compete at both UW-River Falls and UW-Platteville.
