RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's track & field team took fifth place out of nine teams at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship at Ramer Field today.
The Blugolds have finished in sixth place at the championship the last four straight years but moved up to fifth after scoring 97 points this year. UW-La Crosse won the conference title with 184.50 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 175 and UW-Whitewater was third with 120.
Eau Claire had four finishes of third or better.
Andrew Storsveen (Jr.-Winona, Minn.) led the Blugolds today as he took second place in the decathlon with a score of 5,989. Bart Mestelle (So.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) finished third in the event with 5,853.
In the 5,000-meter run, Kevin Hall (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) took third place with a time of 14:50.36, just over two seconds shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Also taking third was Adam Flyte (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) with a time of 1:55.12 in the 800-meter run.
Next week the Blugolds will compete in two last chance meets, one at UW-La Crosse and one at North Central College.
