OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team finished in second place out of eight teams today at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
UW-Oshkosh won the invite with 338.25 points while the Blugolds scored 103.75. UW-Stout finished with 89 in third place and Michigan Tech was fourth with 84.
Kirk Schmidt (Jr.-Athens, Wis.) and Grant Haugan (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led the Blugolds as they each were the lone winners of an event. Schmidt was first in the triple jump with a distance of 13.56 meters (44-6) while Haugan won the long jump with a leap of 6.92 meters (22-8.5). Schmidt also took second in the long jump.
Also in the triple jump, Keegan Parrott (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.) was second with a leap of 13.55 meters (44-5) and Jon Gillespie (Fr.-Altoona, Wis.) was third with a distance of 13.47 meters (44-2.5).
In the pole vault, Jae Erickson (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) tied for first with three others as he finished with a height of 4.31 meters (14-2).
In the shot put, Nick Albers (Fr.-Ashwaubenon, Wis.) tied for third with a toss of 15.58 meters (51-1.5), an NCAA Division III championship provisional qualifying mark.
In the track events, Paul Hetke (Fr.-Chetek, Wis.) and Tom Breitbach (So.-Muskego, Wis.) finished second and third, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run.
Eau Claire will next compete on Saturday, April 10 at the UW-Platteville Open.
